This chapter marks the end of what is effectively Part One of this whole monster of a story. To give a rough idea of how much we've got left to go, if the whole thing comes in at under 14 chapters, I shall be very surprised.

So it figures that just when Stiles was getting used to having his life threatened and all his assumptions overturned on a daily basis, his next morning is so close to uneventful it's almost a let down. )

Available on my AO3 account, or under the cut below. Some mildly spoilerish further notes on where this whole thing came from can be found over on my tumblr.

By midday it's become pretty well inescapable that Lydia isn't waking up. )

LJ, as much as I love it, is kind of dead these days, and was never a particularly great fanfiction archive to begin with, and as for fanfic.net - well, they killed any hope of being taken seriously as a major fic archive the day they banned anything beyond a PG rating. AO3's pretty much where it's at for a lot of fandoms these days, and most of a year and many hours of furious dithering later, I finally finished the mammoth task of getting all my fic uploaded over there.

...yeah. Just in case anyone was actually wondering how you take that long copying what my stats tell me came to over 390,000 words worth of 88 different fic, that's about the size of it.

A few more thoughts on how I've been finding the whole AO3 experience:

Why Kudos are awesome, the edit form is an exercise in frustration, and the bugs in the tagging system burn me to the very core of my geekish soul )
rallamajoop: (Deadpool)
Kind of weird to think I've been in this fandom this long, and this is the first real scene I've ever written featuring Weasel. Well, better late than never (on so many different fronts).

The whole thing including the new chapter is now AO3 as well, which if nothing else should make navigating through the older chapters a whole lot easier.

While going through the latest Good Intentions chapter my beta reader pointed out I really ought to throw together some sort of quick guide to all the younger X-Force members who pop up in the story. Even if they're not much more than window dressing to the story I'm telling, Cable is sorta leading their team at this point in history, and there are a lot of names to keep track of.

A quick who's who )

Well shit, I went and let another three months go past without posting a damn thing. Better make some excuses.

There's been assorted RL stuff too, of course, but nothing too dramatic. Might get around to posting about it later.

So I seem to have a tumblr account now.

This is not truly new news. I technically made that tumblr most of a year ago for the purpose of stalking Homestuck fanartists. Then only weeks ago, [livejournal.com profile] velithya made her own tumblr, and added me to her watch despite all my warnings that I did not use it, then I reblogged some Teen Wolf fanart she might not have seen for her benefit, then I innocently checked the cablepool tag and discovered SOMEONE HAD DONE ART FOR BEEN AND SYMPATHY =DDDDDDD, then tonight I reblogged a couple of other random things just because...

And at this point, I decided I might as well face the inevitable. It may be all reblogs so far, but it can only be a matter of time.

But seriously, check out that B&S fanart! Unf.

Title:Dangerous Things (chapter 0)
Summary: Medieval AU in which the existence of werewolves, hunters and other such nasties is common knowledge. Stiles and Allison weather Scott's second full moon together.
Characters/Pairing: Scott/Allison, Stiles

Notes: So there is this MASSIVE EPIC RIDICULOUS Derek/Stiles AU thing that I am writing, but can't start posting yet because my plans for this thing have yet to develop to where I'm confident I won't have to go back and rewrite significant chunks of chapter one to make everything fit together. What I have written is a standalone prequel scene, which has very little to do with the main plot (Stiles and Derek have yet to even meet at this point in history) but does flesh out some of the background a bit. This is it.

But mostly, this is a couple thousand word love note to Allison, who I am also terribly fond of. )
rallamajoop: (brain go boom)
Okay. So. Making slow-but-steady progress on getting all my fic up over at AO3. All my xxxHoLiC is up (excluding Ghost Stories, which still isn't back from the beta reader), Guilty Gear is done, a half dozen minor fandoms I have had brief flirtations with over the years are done, and I'm up to Cable & Deadpool at last.

This also means I'm up to figuring out exactly how to go about posting that convoluted, multi-threaded AU monstrosity that is Summers'son.

Given the way the action jumps around from scene to scene and timeline to timeline, I'm thinking it's going to make much more sense as a series than as a single fic. (For all AO3's faults, options like the support for posting fic as a series make up for any multitude of sins.) That way, I can post the introductory chapters as one story, and each of the individual timelines following the split as a separate one. So, chapters 4-6, plus those three short epilogues (wherein Nate realises his attraction to Wade on his own terms and still manages to make a mess out of confessing to it thanks to an awkward psychic bungle) would become one fic, and the first part of chapter 7 would be another, and... okay, and here it gets complicated, because there are a few different ways I could break some of this down. I'm also about to need a whole bunch of new titles.

Hashing out some of my options and throwing around some possible titles under the cut )

Making these sorts of minor logistic decisions always takes me far more angst than it's worth, so if anyone wants to throw their own opinion/preferences/better ideas for titles my way, I'm all ears right now.

Got a message from [livejournal.com profile] melnakuru a little while back asking if she could translate my Cable/Deadpool fic Beer and Sympathy into Chinese, to which the answer was an enthusiastic "sure, go for it!" The result is up on marvelfanclub.com and mtslash.com - both of which are member access only, but we should be able to get the translation up on AO3 later too if that's of use to people.

In other C&DP fic news, I have a 3000 word start on the chapter 8 of Good Intentions! This would not seem like such a victory, except that most of the scenes in this chapter have been floating around my head since I started the thing, and actually having them down at last (oh god, has it actually been over a year since I last updated it? ;_; ) feels like reaching a major milestone.

But the real culprit for getting me back into my fic-writing groove remains that Teen Wolf fic I was working on, which has now broken 30,000 words and the end is nowhere in sight. I think it's safe to say this thing is turning into a monster. But mostly in a good way.

ACTUAL FIC COMING SOON I SWEAR WATCH THIS SPACE
rallamajoop: (D brothers)
As I type, I am watching a commercial break in the middle of a random movie about gangsters or assassins or something similarly generic that would not have caught my eye at all except for two small details: firstly, one of the stars is Ryan Reynolds, and secondly, the title of the movie is Smokin’ Aces. It is possible that this means I am now crossing the steams of my current fandoms in a dangerously stupid fashion, but mostly I’m just enjoying the discovery that this movie is every bit as gratuitous as my excuses for watching it.

Anyhow, this all seemed like as good a reason as any to finish off one last post on the subject of My Thoughts On One Piece which has been sitting around on my hard drive for a while now.

This is basically a collection of assorted thoughts on some of the bigger names from the One Piece rogues' gallery that I never found the place to bring up in any of my other posts. )
rallamajoop: (Stiles)
As I mentioned in passing in that massive Teen Wolf Squee Post, my first attempt to get into the show failed rather miserably when the opening episodes did absolutely nothing for me. Now that I’ve cleared that first hurdle and established for my own record that the show not only improves past its rocky beginnings, but improves out of motherfucking sight, it occurred to me it would be an interesting scientific exercise to go back to those opening episodes and see whether they looked any better in retrospect, now I’ve done such a thorough job of biasing my reactions in their favour. There’s precedent for this sort of thing – back in the days of my brief and only mildly embarrassing fannish fling with Smallville, a couple of weeks of mainlining every Clark/Lex fic on the web with the fervour of the newly converted transformed my reactions to episode 1 of the same series all the way from the original ‘meh’ to ‘yeah, it’s still cheesy, but heeeee people really weren’t kidding about the amazing chemistry Lex has with, like, everything, yowzah!’ Would Teen Wolf go the same way?

As it turned out, even on a rewatch, the first three episodes are... not good.

Some elaboration on that point, which perhaps inevitably turns into more rambling about how Teen Wolf STILL grows into a better show than anything else in the same genre I have seen since I don't know when. )

A commenter in my last post asked if I had any recs for someone trying to get back into comics after many years away. I started writing up a reply, and it quickly turned into a laundry list of everything I have enjoyed from Marvel since I got into them, which is a bit on the long side to fit into a comment. So I figured what the hey - why not turn it into a proper post? It'll be nice to share something positive on the subject for a change.

A few words to put this list into context: like many of us these days, my gateway to Marvel fandom was through the movies. The specific culprits were the 2007 Iron Man movie, which got me into a few various Avengers titles, and the 2009 X-Men Origins: Wolverine (which I thoroughly enjoyed, I do not care what the rest of the Internet may think of my taste!), which got me into Deadpool. I've rarely strayed all that far from those entry points since.

On to the recs! )
rallamajoop: By addygryff @ LJ (Cable)
It’s been most of a year now since I made that ‘Why I’m Not Reading Generation Hope’ post. But despite all my best intentions of giving up the flagellation of deceased equines, Marvel have done a stellar job of positioning her to be very difficult to ignore. Watching what they’ve done with her since has been a gradual slide from frustration to resignation to a sort of trainwreck amused fascination with just how far the writers have gone to avoid delving into a single one of the few plot points that I would have found interesting.

Under the cut: a whole lot of rumblings on Generation: Hope, X-Sanction, Avengers vs X-Men and the general state of the Marvel universe and my investment therein )

But seriously, even if you read no other part of this post, you should go check out Andrew Wheeler's unofficial scorecard of Avengers vs X-Men reviews, because even if nothing else good has come out of the whole event, they alone would just about make it worthwhile.

Expanding on that last post I threw together last week, despite a mildly disappointing turn out, Animania was a pretty excellent con experience. There was some fantastic art on display in the artist’s alley (I picked up three BRS prints from a table just a few down from ours, which may mark the first time I’ve ever bought fanart prints) and in a completely welcome contrast to Perth Supanova’s dismal efforts, there was One Piece merchandise for sale everywhere. :3 Only disappointment was how much sold out before I could get to it.

Yeah, so, I have gone and got myself horrendously addicted to this show called Teen Wolf. This is your inevitable squee/rec post that, as always, remains brief and to the point at a mere 3000 words. *hangs head in shame* Let's get this over with.

The short version: Despite its cunning disguise as post-Twilight teen-garbage, Teen Wolf turns out to be not only well-plotted, clever and an edge-of-your-seat viewing experience, it also caters to my id on a level I hardly have words to describe. It's greatest failing is that it is not yet more than two shamefully short seasons long.

The long version:

I am not kidding: had a TV show been made just for me, it would probably look very much like this. )
rallamajoop: (Nami)
Been having a bit of a month over here.

Sydney Animania: Was great! Numbers were a bit on the meh side, but I spent more money on shiny new merch than at any other con in ages, and as always half the fun was just getting to catch up with all our friends from over east, and for that alone the trip was awesome.

Akemi Okamura (a.k.a. the voice of Nami, a.k.a. the Guest of Honour): Seemed very happy to see a Nami cosplayer around (there were only two of us at the whole con! Two!), and autographed the back of my handkerchief for me. :3

My Clima Tact: Blew bubbles (with red or blue lights for heat/cool ball effects), did lightning effects and separated into three parts, not including the semi-detachable lightning globe on an extendable chain for swing-arm possibilities, and one me Master Weapon Engineer on Sunday. \o/ Finally got it working, like, the day before we left.

The World Cosplay Summit Australian Finals: Congrats to K and Aly! You were great, and it is absolutely your turn already.

Why I did not post about the con in the week after we got back: Because I came home to find myself with an epic case of con and/or travel blarg, and spent most of the week in bed. :/ (Honestly, I have been sick so little this year that it felt like it was surely my turn, so it was not really so bad.)

Why I did not post about the con in the week after that either: Because I may have spent part of my downtime getting myself shamelessly addicted to this show called Teen Wolf and I have been very distracted okay? (Oh my god, you guys this show!!!)

Full con report, cosplay photos and shameless new fandom squee all coming soon.
