Will definitely keep that rec in mind (though admittedly, it might help if I'd watched any other episodes of the Wild Wild West first).
Ohhh, that was the TV counterpart. I still have trouble matching most movie titles with their corresponding episodes.
Oh, I know - I swear they pulled some of those titles out of a hat or something, for all they seem to have to do with the plot. And speaking of plot ideas that someone pulled out of a hat, The Alexander the Greater Affair is exactly the kind of episode I tend to rec to people not as one that's actually good but as a kind of OMG, you HAVE to see this shit it is bananas. I still maintain that the only way his 'plan' made a lick of sense if you know absolutely nothing about a) Alexander the Great, b) The Ten Commandments, or c) the definition of the words "conquering the world". The guy was a skeezy unlikable bastard, but I just kind of wanted to pat him on the head and go awww, maybe some day you'll be a REAL bad guy - perhaps when he comes up with some evil stuff to do for selfish reasons, rather than by going down some sort of checklist.
At least with Maude you can sort of vaguely wave at the Mad Mad Tea Party Affair and say, well, Waverly does have a weird-ass record for calling in favours from family members with UNCLE clearance to pull random pranks on his agents. I don't have any excuse for the rest of it - such an epic mess of an episode.
And yet apparently it still made a truckload of money in European cinemas, while everyone from Heitland's book to major fansite episode guides (http://manfromuncle.org/episodes.htm) list it as a series highlight! Season 3 gets dragged through the mud for its bonkers phase, but this gets a pass? IDEK
