Right. So. Um. You know those cracked little ideas that leap out and bite you when you’re trying you damnedest to work on something else? Well, the latest example to get to me was a Twilight parody. And say what you like about Twilight, if it was put upon this green earth for any just and holy reason, it was to be parodied.

A summary for the uninitiated (should there be any left at this point who have managed to avoid all that mania) )

The only reason I have paid any serious attention to it at all is that in its growing infamy, Twilight has vaulted past even So Bad It's Good and landed in So Bad It's Awesome by developing a dedicated second fanbase of lolfans who are into the series for no other reason than for the joy of making fun of it. They've produced a motherload of reviews, parodies and regular reports about the crazy antics of the movie actors, author and fans; varying in tone from the outraged to the unbelieving to the merely amused. If you think this should get old quickly, then you haven't yet grasped just how much there is to make fun of. I have not the slightest interest in ever touching a single one of the books, but I have gotten more enjoyment out of laughing along with this than anything I've seen in a very long time. Twilight has become my first anti-fandom ever.

(Actually, if you really are new to all this, go read [livejournal.com profile] cleolinda's wiki and recaps - she is far more witty and entertaining about it than I could ever hope to be, and some of this stuff does need to be seen to be believed.)

The danger of getting involved in this sort of thing is that you wind up running into things like people discussing how the infamous “Do I dazzle you?” scene would have made for infinitely more awesome if it had gone down between not Bella and Edward, but Rose and Doctor Who. The reason this is dangerous is because it will lead to you spending the next morning, when you were trying so very hard to work on all that other stuff on the WIP list, fighting off a chunk of your brain that keeps going “Hey, forget the Doctor, you know who else is all shiny and dazzles the people who work for him all the time?” At this point you are doomed and might as well admit it.

This would be what you get when you try to write a high school AU and a vampire AU at the same time. )

Guilty Gear may not be the best series out there for crossovers, but there are a couple of other neat series out there I’ve been following which can be validly crossed over with anything, and Guilty Gear can’t even pretend to be an exception. >D

Kingdom Hearts/Guilty Gear – It’s all about buckles and belts (and gay) )

Doctor Who/Guilty Gear: Wait, you mean there are characters *other* than Sol and Ky in this universe? )

The third of the series I’m known to maybe-write-the-occasional-fic for which can be crossed over with anything you like would be Tsubasa/xxxHOLiC multiverse, but there even my imagination appears to have given out.

This has actually been finished for a couple of days now, but the Internet connection from where we're staying is not the most reliable thing. Only one more chapter left to go on this now! (and with any luck, the computer will cooperate enough for me to get that up before I get home too)

Making good progress with the next few parts, so I've actually got a chapter up early for a change. ^_^ And unless anything turns out to need any unusually major revisions, I'd say I finally have a solid idea of how many parts I'm aiming for too.

Ye gods, I was starting to think I was never going to get this thing posted. ^^; Let the record stand: beginnings are hard (though naturally harder when you start half way through and only the come back to them). Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] velithya and [livejournal.com profile] cigerfei for proof reading this for me.

Title: Catalyst
Series: Tsubasa/Fullmetal Alchemist (+extra random CLAMP, in compliance with standard Tsubasa guidelines)
Part: 1/11
Rating: PG
Summary: It's nearly always safe to assume that whatever trouble the Tsubasa crew wind up in, there's going to be a feather involved somewhere in the middle of things. And it's probably even safer to assume that where the Elric brothers are involved, it's never going to be the Philosopher's Stone.
Notes:
Written partially because Tsubasa is the sort of series you can cross with anything, and I happened to spot a few neat little parallels in the standard week-to-week plots of the early chapters of both series that amused me (see: fic summary). But mostly because the chance to put Ed and Syaoran in one place was too good to pass up. The sheer determination those boys approach their journeys with is pretty impressive stuff.

Timeline-wise, this would be set somewhere in the early volumes of Tsubasa (presumably past Outo country, since Syaoran's carrying around a sword, but not much further than that) and during early or pre-series FMA - in fact, it should probably be possible to follow this even if you're not more than very basically familiar with FMA at all.

You know those fic requests memes you see floating around on LJ. They generally say something along the lines of:

"Give me a character / pairing and / or a short prompt / outline of a scene / crossover idea / a summary of a giant epic / your favourite cliché / a fic I’ve written before / some other prompt-ish thing, and I’ll write you a sentence / drabble / ficlet / list of five (or more) things / first part of the story / last part of the story / sequel / missing scene / alternate version / whatever."

I always wanted to try one, but now that I finally feel like it’s a decent time for me to try it, I’m having trouble picking one out of so many different variations. So instead I’m going to say: send me a prompt of any kind or combination in that list (or any other kind you can think of, really) and I’ll see what I can do about coming up with something to go with it.

I’ll probably be aiming for something sentence to drabble length, but since this is my first go at anything remotely request meme-ish, the basic plan is to just see what comes to me. Obviously, I can’t make any promises that I’ll necessarily come up with something for any possible request, but I’m happy to have pretty much anyone show up to request whatever – although I will warn people that prompts involving smut or particularly weird pairings are most likely to result in me staring at the screen feeling embarrassed for a bit, and then going to work on something else.

Fandoms I've written for before - another one of these lists that is probably mostly for my own amusement )

Prompt at will.

One final epilogue to conclude the xxxHolic/Discworld crossover series. (Pending any further unexpected bursts of inspiration, anyway. It feels pretty final though, and that's good enough for me at this stage.)

Title: Of Heroes and Sidekicks (aka, the one that is all [livejournal.com profile] rusalkaz’s fault)
Summary: In which the owner of the luggage turns out to have more in common with Watanuki than either had realised.
Spoilers: None, though, y'know, you might want to read the other parts first

Previous parts:
Part 1: Just Another Tuesday
Part 2: Binky
Part 3: A Death in the Family
Epilogue 1: The Luggage
Cripple Mr Onion (not a chronological part of the series, but part of the same crossover)

'Do you get a lot of monsters around here?' )
rallamajoop: (xxxHolic)
So Wai-con was fantastic, but damn it's nice to have the free time to do stuff like this again.

This would be the first of two short epilogues to conclude my xxxHolic/Discworld crossover series - just a few hundred words this time. The last part will be a bit longer, and I'm hoping to have up up within a week at the latest.

Title: The Luggage
Summary: In retrospect, introducing Himawari to the luggage had been a mistake.
Spoilers: This was written with certain revelations from the last xxxHolic arc in here in mind, but the references are vague enough that I don't think they'd count as real spoilers.

Previous parts:
Part 1: Just Another Tuesday
Part 2: Binky
Part 3: A Death in the Family

Another part to the xxxHolic/Discworld series that just keeps on extending ^^;. This started out as a missing scene from near the end of Binky, but wound up long enough to be declared an extra part in its own right. The first part Just Another Tuesday is up here in case anyone's looking for it.

Title: A Death in the Family
Summary: Watanuki meets another member of the Death family. Susan is introduced to some lesser known Japanese spirits, and our hero is introduced to some novel ways of dealing with them.
Spoilers: Nothing important, though you'd probably want to read the previous parts of the series first.

A Death in the Family )
rallamajoop: (xxxHolic)
I swear, if I ever manage to build a reputation in this fandom, it's going to be as the xxxHolic crossover girl.

Title:What You Wish For
Summary: Ed and Al stumble on to a shop which deals in an unusual sort of merchandise.
Spoilers: Nothing serious for either series.
Word count: 540
Notes: So, one of my larger projects right now is (what will be) a decently long Tsubasa/FMA crossover. This isn't part of that, but the similarity between the ideas of equivalent trade from FMA and Tsubasa's sister series intrigued me enough that they seemed worth exploring a short piece of their own.

What You Wish For )
rallamajoop: (xxxHolic)
Sequel to Just Another Tuesday, expanded from the previously posted version here (although unrelated to the Granny Weatherwax one, except by the series being crossed over). Huge thanks go to [livejournal.com profile] rhap_chan for kindly volunteering to beta this for me.

Title: Binky
Summary: Watanuki, Doumeki, and a horse borrowed from a shinigami from another dimension. Just another job when you work for Yuuko.
Spoilers: Reference to certain facts regarding Doumeki’s childhood revealed in chapter 102, plus a couple of blink-and-you'll-miss-them* references to certain outcomes of the spider arc.

*Look, I swear I didn't realise how appropriate an expression that was until after I'd written it!

It had been one of those mornings when Watanuki absolutely dreaded going past the temple. )
rallamajoop: (xxxHolic)
Finally got the Yuuko-meets-Granny Weatherwax one back from the beta!

Title: Cripple Mr Onion
Series: xxxHolic crossover with Discworld (+ tiny little CCS reference)
Rating: G
Summary: Yuuko meets a witch of a rather different variety.

It has been said that the basic classes of witch may be divided into the maiden, the mother and the…other one )

And on the subject of beta readers and xxxHolic/Discworld crossovers... )
