Will be back to worry about how long it's going to take to edit this monster into a finished version neurose about how much better it was meant to be throw the obligatory OMG IT'S DONE party later. \o/

Ye gods, I was not counting on this chapter taking this long to finish. >_< Wasn't counting on it turning into a single scene that went on for very nearly six thousand words either. It's been a real chapter for underestimation. I'm so very sorry.

Just a quick side note to since there've been quite a lot of people pointing out typos in the last couple of chapters: I appreciate that people are trying to help me out, but I'm not labeling this thing a 'draft' because I expect my audience to do the betaing for me, I'm doing it because it helps to have that regular posting schedule to keep the momentum going, even though I'm still half expecting I'll wind up completely rewriting every other line between now and the finished version. So combing through for spelling errors is probably a bit of a waste of everyone's time at this stage, especially when corrections made on LJ posts generally don't make it back to the main word document on account of authorial laziness and will only have to be found again later if they don't get written out in the meantime. I'll have to get to finding someone to do a proper full betaing job on this monster some way down the line, but for now picking out typos is better left to the later polishing stages. (Unless of course it really has gotten so bad you can't make sense out of what I'm trying to say, which would be your cue to bash me over the head a few times and remind me that the whole world can see what I'm posting here, and I might want to pay a bit more attention. >.>)

Posting sneakily from work again just to get this chapter up. Something of a dialogue-heavy installment this time around - lots of blather to get through, but this should be the last chapter like this before we're back to the action again in a big way. I'm actually getting to close enough to the end of this at last that I've got a rough estimate of about how many chapters there are left to go (though the answer there is 'still a good few yet').

A week and a half late on this chapter - oh man, I was not counting on this taking so long. >.> I've had a pretty good run on this story so far, but this chapter kicked my arse - which I was expecting, but not quite on this scale. This would be what happens when you finally get to scenes you've been building towards for pretty much the whole damn story (bound to be a few more of those to come now I'm getting towards the end of the story, but I'll just have to take it as it comes on that front).

On the upside, in that extra week this thing grew to twice the length of most of the chapters I've posted so far, so, er, maybe I can claim it as equivalent to two chapters? Thanks go to lunargeography for looking over this part for me and - well, mostly just telling me I didn't need to worry so much about how it had turned out in the end. The part to follow is coming along with much less fuss so far, which is a great relief.

Oh man did this chapter ever take longer than I was planning. ^^; It's not even the chapter itself that was the problem, but I was off work with a killer headache for half of last week, still a bit woozy for the rest of the week and at a few too many parties or being distracted via chat by certain people who kept throwing fantastic crack ideas at me over the weekend. That kind of week really chips down on your remaining hours of fic-editing productivity.

Anyway, on the upside, what I've got to post is the first of the backstory chapters, and if it seems unusually long to people, that would be because it clocks in at slightly north of 4000 words - roughly double most of the chapters I've posted so far. For the record, the flashback chapters collectively switched into present tense so many times when I was trying to write them that eventually I just gave in and let them have their way (comforting myself with the thought I could go back and fix them in the final copy. *cough*) Either way, the backstory chapters have come out in rather a different style to the rest of the story so far, which I hope won't wind up being too jarring.

Um, surprise? XD;

As the situation stands right now, it still looks like CLAMP will be dragging the current holic plotline out for another couple of chapters at least, whenever those might surface, but (between this week's chapters and the spoilers for next week's) I think we've seen enough to get at least a decent feeling for the elements they're going to have in play. Meanwhile, it's been over two months since I've posted anything from this WIP, and during that time I've stockpiled 20,000+ words of unposted new material and am facing the fact that I'm going to stay stalled on writing the last few chapters of the story until I get what I've already written neatened up a good deal. A decent chunk of what I'm likely to get to posting while the current manga plotline drags on is backstory for other characters anyway, which should be safe enough. And if chapters to come still do make me change my mind about what I'm doing with AU!Kohane all over again, at least this version is still draft-y enough that I can get away with it.

Anyway, based on my own mental notes on how the story breaks down, this would be the first chapter of part four, of five parts total. The end of this monster is almost in sight!

Still no new proper chapter on Ghost Stories this week, with CLAMP's inconvenient cliffhanger hanging over things. In fact, it looks like we'll only be getting one new holic chapter between now and the end of the year, which doesn't give me great faith that anything much will be resolved within the next month. :/ But, as I've mentioned before, I've got a good supply of ideas for side stories in this universe that won't fit into the main plotline - and one of them already written. So consider this a kind of filler, I guess.
