Slightly confused thoughts on recent xxxHOLiC/Tsubasa

I seem to be taking this chapter better than a lot of us. As heartwrenching as it is to see Watanuki in tears like that, in the end it all feels hopeful. Watanuki's still human, he finally understands that people care about him, and whatever the big secret about him is, he doesn't have to disappear for it. Also, surprised Yuuko from the last couple of pages was so very sweet.

What got to me was Watanuki listing off all these things that have been *nagging* at me all through the series - that we don't know what year he's in, that we've never heard his parents or caretakers names or seen their faces, and that he hardly interacts with anyone apart from Yuuko's customers and the spirits. And he used them all as evidence he wasn't human - maybe wasn't even real.

No, really. *Nagging* at me ever since I first got hooked on this manga.

My god, they've been planning all this all along. o_o Wow.

I take it all back. They just pull it all our of their arses as they go.

And I still need someone to make those Kurogane icons.

It does seem hopeful...as much as it kills me to see Watanuki cry there's a sense of it all being okay, especially with the sweet, serene way Yuuko handled it all.

And yes you do need to make those icons *grins*

I'm with you on those little things! It always bothered me, just a little bit, that he didn't even say hi to anyone, that nothing was really explained about his school, his apartment that we hardly ever see, the caretakers...like, what got me the most was that there was no mention of anyone particularly caring what happened to him after he [spoilered] out of the [spoiler]. No teachers, no other students. I was like "I know he's not the most popular guy around, but geez."

And as for Tsubasa--what I want most is for someone to, you know, tend to Kurogane. I'm still amazed he's even in a somewhat sitting position, considering he's, you know, losing a ton of blood. It's a little thing, yeah, but I still want something to happen.

My personal (and not very well supported) theory? Watanuki is liminal boy. He was created or altered to be able to co-exist in several realities at once. He might be critical to supporting all of them. He's got a foot in the spirit world and a foot in the human world. He could effortlessly pass into the realm of the dead-but-not-yet-gone to save the little girl beneath the hydrangea.

But the cost of being all those places is that he is never entirely anywhere without someone else paying attention to him. Doumeki is very good at bringing him into focus. *grins*

And as FWR destabalizes the universes, Watanuki is particularly vulnerable. And I wonder if his narcolepsy is related to Maru and Moro needing to sleep to anchor the shop against reality breaking apart. His dreams might be weaving together and supporting and protecting everyone he has known and loved?

I read a huge chunk of Holic online recently, and things have been weird since the water-collecting mission. We went from incredibly hot mid-summer straight into weather that called for coats, mittens and gloves? And then it's Watanuki's birthday? And all the gifts he's giving out are protection... against the elements, yeah, but still. And he gets gifts in return that let him do his work...

And you don't want me to even start on Watanuki as the unconcious Home Ec mage. Really.

Yeah, that was what I got out of the chapter. Things are bad, but it doesn't feel doom and gloom-y by any stretch.

Maybe I'll have to see if I can track down any decent icon bases at one of the Tsubasa communities, finding good pictures for this is half the problem... *adds to scarylong list of other things she should be doing (sigh)*

I think by the time we got to the window incident I was getting used to the fact that no-one else at his school really seems to exist in any meaningful, story-related way, but yeah - it's always felt just slightly off. You could have put it down to where the focus of the story was, but for none of that stuff even to be mentioned in passing did seem strange. So it's actually sort of reassuring to know I wasn't wrong to be reading something into it. ^^;

With Tsubasa - it does seem like that injury isn't as bad as it originally looked. But what with Fye, I'm sure he must have been losing more blood than is healthy lately as it is. Let's hope wherever Mokona lands them next has some good medical facilities.

I just don't even bother coming up with theories much, because I *know* CLAMP are going to throw me for a loop with whatever the reality is. ^^; What with his parents and bloodline at all, I thought we *had* an explanation for his weirdness back at the start, but it's been made pretty clear since there's way more to him than that. How that's going to fit together with his established history is what confuses me most. It does seem likely that whatever's happening to Maru and Moro must be connected to him though. Very probably whatever's happening to Real!Syaoran over in Tsubasa too.

Holic seems to come out so infrequently that I never know what time of year it's supposed to be. ^^; It seems like the least of the weirdness in that series.
