Where My Month Has Gone
Jul. 20th, 2008 10:47 pmEvery time I decide I really ought to be able to find more time to actually participate in LJ/Internet stuff a bit more actively lately, it seems I get A Week like this one. Or a fortnight. In fact, this one's been more like three weeks now, and I'm not sure whether it's over yet.
Previously on WTF It's July Already? theatre, our heros navigated the challenges of moving out of home, surviving the best part of two months without Internet connection, and a full round of early-winter fluziness. But it was not over there...
July 2 (Wednesday): Rollerskating training in morning. Supposed to be half an hour, end up lasting ten minutes before having to leave the floor with unusually bad pain in one of my leg muscles. Go home, decide to take it easy and hope to god that whatever's strained will have time to heal up by the weekend.
July 5 (Saturday): Day 1 of the Rollerskating State Championships. Leg has not gotten better. Make it through my first event barely, limp off the floor. A few people comment I looked a bit shaky towards the end of my second dance. Funny that.
July 6 (Sunday): Day 2 of Rollerskating State Championships. Three blocks from the venue, car stalls with no warning and will not start again. Very nice passer-by stops and gives me a lift the rest of the way. Other very nice people at the competition help push start my car to get it the rest of the way to the venue while I run in to prepare for my event. Am told car needs new battery, which one of those nice people actually volunteers to go and pick up for me. Experience rare realisation that people are more wonderful than I in any way deserve.
Skating event is not so wonderful. Freezing cold day + stiff muscle + stressful morning = make it through dance somehow, collapse on nearest bench and sniffle pathetically until leg recovers. Get given phone number of good physiotherapist, and make mental note to call the guy ASAP.
July 7 (Monday):
yiji_chan is visiting from Melbourne! Dinner with her and many other awesome people at vegetarian restaurant which is hosting a karaoke competition full of entrants with too much talent for their own good. Jaw may have dropped once or twice. This is followed by a trip to another venue for karaoke of a less competitive variety. Also get to play "how many people can we fit in a purikura booth". Much fun is had by all.
July 8 (Tuesday):
yiji_chan is still visiting from Melbourne, and we're making the most of it. Get together organised for her and everyone from PenCafe to meet at our place in the evening. Half an hour before party starts, get phone call from
pinneagig to say that the car has stalled when she stopped to pick up party supplies and won't start again. Whadya known, looks like it wasn't the battery after all. Much flailing and combined efforts of everyone available to help fail to restart the car. Give up, leave car in carpark overnight and go home. Party otherwise goes off as well as can be expected.
July 9 (Wednesday): Back to the carpark first thing in the morning, call RAC and get car working long enough to get it to a mechanic, because it's sure as hell not going anywhere else without a new alternator. Expensive repairs ensue.
July 13 (Saturday): Get up early to go fabric shopping, only to discover fabric store has moved to the other side of Perth. On the upside, new location is just down the road from another fabric store which has an even better range. Fabric is purchased.
On Saturday night different friends have scheduled an engagement party and a birthday party at the same time. Lots of traveling interspersed with what feels like comparitively short periods of actual partying. Get home very late.
Car is now making suspicious noises which fail to go away after ignoring them for the first few hours. Hoo boy.
July 14 (Sunday): Sleep in liek whoa. Mooch around feeling tired. Dinner with parents. Back to bed.
July 15 (Tuesday): Take car back to the mechanic again to ask about those mysterious noises. Mechanic (despite otherwise being very nice and pleasant and allegedly very competent) cannot find the problem in time to allow car to be picked up again that day. Public transport is looking like a better idea by the day.
July 16 (Wesnesday): Car picked up again, now working nicely. Electrician comes after much earlier negotiation over the question of whether "after 4:30 PM" means some time in the morning (don't ask), but can only tell us that our hot water system isn't producing hot water because it doesn't work so well when the weather gets cold. Recommends to our estate agent that system is replaced soon-ish. Nothing much seems to come of this. >__<
July 17 (Thursday): Second visit to physiotherapist involves both legs being stuck full of acupuncture needles. Fortunately, after the pain goes away a couple of days later, this does seem to have helped.
Also go to Genghiscon fundraiser screening ofThe Joker The Dark Knight, and are pleased to find it actually lives up to all the hype.
July 19-20 (Weekend): Whadya mean it's over already?
