[Guilty Gear fic] Normal Continuity Will Be Restored Shortly

Bit of light relief between all those big projects: here's a drabble written as gift-fic for velithya (though also because wordiness is one of my worst habits and some practice with a form that forces you to be concise is always a good exercise - not to mention an attempt to exorcise one of those cheesier ideas that nags at me from time to time in some kind of safe and controlled manner. velithya is now conspiring to make sure that one backfires at me as badly as possible x_x)

Title: Normal Continuity Will Be Restored Shortly
Word count: 100 (we are very traditional about drabbles around here)
Characters/Pairing: Well, it's like this - I'm posting it to solxky, but, technically speaking...

Ky offers the man a hand up, only to find he’s not slumped against the wall but slouched, watching with naked appreciation, face so impossibly familiar it stops Ky cold.

“Nice. Lightning magic? Never seen it handled like that.”

“Ah, I’m…” A bit far from home? How does he explain himself with only the faintest, horrible suspicion of how he arrived… wherever this is? “I’m… Ky Kiske.”

The grip on his hand isn’t quite a handshake. “Call me Frederick.”

The name echoes, hard and wrong and real, but even afterwards part of him insists it must have been another one.

^^; Does it still count as shameless cliche fic if no-one in this fandom has done it before? I... actually have this embarrassingly detailed story in my head expanding on this scene. On one hand, I can sympathize with you because my WIP list has been growing at an alarming rate lately. But the other, I'm trying not to cheer out loud because that idea has some awesome potential.

...actually, it's really encouraging to find people like the idea so much, because as velithya may have hinted, she's done a very thorough job of talking me into doing something more with it. ^^; It may not be soon, but it's in the game plan.

Haha, as much as I may have been trying to get out of writing any more when I first wrote this drabble, that is a very good reaction to get to one indeed. =D (While I can't claim to be one of the best at this, there are people out there who can do such a fantastic little snapshot of an idea in only a hundred words, and it's so often just enough to make you really, really want more.)

I'm never sure what to say, but here goes. This is a neat little idea, especially because I think Frederick and Ky are not all that dissimilar in certain aspects. Hope to see more of it.

(Never sure what to say?) There's so little canonical information about Frederick out there that I know I've pretty much had to infer most of my own image of what he was like (in short: like Sol, but talks a lot more science and sets a lot fewer things on fire), but out of curiousity, what aspects were you thinking of? Willingness to go to a lot of work to make a project they think will do mankind some good is the main one that springs to mind (though I doubt Frederick's motives were quite as altruistic...)

If velithya has her way, there should be a lot more to follow. ^^;

Never sure what to say as I hate unconstructive commenting from my person and usually other people say the stuff I think of for me. XD

Yeah. I'm not sure how far his motivations were altruistic or not, but I'm inclined to believe he thought he was doing something good with his research. I just picture him as this guy who works away in his own lab and most of the lesser staff are afraid to even pass by the door, and every once in a while, after three day shifts, he emerges and then you better not impede his path to the coffee maker.
