I downloaded LJ Talk a while back but I haven’t really done anything with it since, so I was wondering, are any of the rest of you using it? Is it worth bothering with, or should I just stick with the usual gmail/occasional AIM chat programs I’m used to?

On to an unrelated (though much lengthier) topic, it’s generally known that not everyone who enjoys a fic comes up with anything to say about it (and much as I live for like getting feedback, I’d be the last person to complain about this since I’m very aware I don’t leave feedback on everything I read by a long margin). So one of the nice bonuses of doing polls like this one is suddenly you’re getting a slightly better idea of about how many people really are reading your work and getting enough out of it to have an opinion on what they’d like to see more of, and – well, I’m not sure what number I was expecting, but still. Cool. That’s quite a lot of people. ^_^ And of course it’s extra gratifying when they all vote for the one you wanted to continue anyway.

The post-apocalyptic AU is coming along nicely, but there are a lot of background details that need to be sorted out, some of which I think I’ve got figured out, some of which I’m still pondering. So, in the hope I can talk people into helping me bounce ideas around, here’s what I’ve got so far:

Assorted background stuff, to be incorporated into the story at some point )

Other stuff to come, some of it not for a long while yet. (Much of which probably constitutes spoilers for things which won’t happen for a good long while) )

So, talk to me people. Am I heading in a good direction with all this? Anyone got any good suggestions about what I should/shouldn't be doing with this world?

Something I’m never sure how many other people notice is how much I like talking about writing. I like talking about where I get ideas from (the easy bit), how they get from being an idea to being a story (the hard bit) and all the other exciting pitfalls you have to get out of in the process of making it work outside your own head – but so I don’t sound completely self-absorbed, I should mention that I also love reading the same sort of stuff when other writers post it. It’s neat to get some sort of idea where others get their ideas from (and often as not, to find out everyone else falls into much the same pitfalls as you do). I’m never quite sure how many other people feel the same way about this kind of blather though – fortunately that’s exactly what LJ cuts are for.

So, hypothetically, if I was writing Guilty Gear fic, is there anyone out there on the f-list who'd be interested in reading it?

And stuff )

Kinda late for a 'what I wrote in 2006' thing, but I like making these lists - it makes me feel like I've achieved something.

The complete list, plus bonus blather )

Is there anyone who'd be willing to do a quick beta job on a couple of pieces of Kingdom Hearts fic of mine? They come to about 6500-7000 words total, and are the last two parts of the series about the Traverse Town Final Fantasy crew I started with 'Of Flower Girls and Falling Stars' (first part here, second part here. The new ones stand well enough on their own that there's no real need to read the first two first, but they might give people some idea what they're getting into). I'd kinda like to have them both up by around Christmas if that turns out to be possible. I may just post them as is if it comes to that - I'll have to wait and see how I feel about them at the time - but I'd much rather have someone to go over them for me first if it's not too much trouble.

Update from here, just because I like to keep track of these things.

Six down, one struggling, four new challengers. )

I like to think I’m making headway.

So, this is probably going to sound sorta odd, but back when I posted those photos of the Heartless plushie with the glowing eyes, the reaction was just so overwhelmingly fantastic that I sort of promised we'd find a way to put a pattern for it online. And ever since then, there've been these couple of names staring at me from my 'friended by' list which I'm pretty sure I don't recognise from anywhere else and so the thought occurs - hey, just maybe there's a chance these are people who were hoping they'd actually get to *see* that pattern within, say, the next six bleeding months or so, huh?

Seriously, I'm entirely of a 'friend or defriend at will' mindset, but until any of them tell me otherwise, this is going to have to remain my current working theory.

So the situation is: the instructions and the pattern are done. A friend of ours kindly offered to try them out to make sure they make sense to people other than just us, but she's pretty flat out with Wai-con preparations right now (hell, aren't we all?) and hasn't had a chance to make it yet. We still need to actually scan the pattern and find a way to print it out too, and I should at least make some notes on the electronics side in case people want to have a go at making the eyes glow, but we haven't quite got around to that part either and we're kinda flat out ourselves right now too, and, hey, I mentioned that big, scary upcoming con, right? ^^;;;

Anyway, my point is: if I'm not crazy and any of you are reading for this, the pattern has not been forgotten. It probably won't be up for a while yet, but it *will* get finished. And I make that as close to a promise as promises generally get in the uncertain world of LJ.

And, while I'm here, there are a couple of fic-ish things I've finished lately, and then broken tradition by posting straight to other comms without adding them here as well. So, on the off chance anyone's keeping score:

Cracktastic interlude to that 'Of Flower Girls and Falling Stars' Kingdom Hearts fic I'd warn this could be considered spoiler-y-ish, but mostly I'd just warn for crack and blatant strike-through abuse.

Tsubasa Five Things Little fun project finding stuff like "Five things Fye didn't lie about" for all the characters. Spoilers galore, loved the recent chapters way too much not to talk about them.

That Watanuki/Doumeki one Yeah, fandom gets us all in the end XD

If the last few months of posts weren't proof enough, I've been writing rather a lot lately.

A few things which turned up while writing for Discworld or CLAMP recently: )

In related news, I sat down earlier and made a list of everything I've got in the to-do pile right now. It's long. Okay, it's always long, but the surprising part is I think there's actually a decent chance most of it will get done within a few months.

So it looked like it was time to dredge out that old unfinished-fic-meme, even if this is going to be mostly for my own reference:

The ones I’m working on now (xxxHolic, Discworld, Tsubasa, Kingdom Hearts) )

The ones I’m going to work on just as soon as I clear that list a little (Kingdom Hearts, Tsubasa, Full Metal Alchemist, Final Fantasy VII, more xxxHolic) )

The ones I haven’t touched in ages but still sort of plan to get back to (Naruto, more Kingdom Hearts, more FFVII, Original) )

That's sixteen different projects. Gonna be busy for a while over here.

Christmas was, as always, very enjoyable, and left me very full of turkey. Loot included the first season of House, the promise of a Gaara plushie and a plenty of chocolate. The first part of the Christmas haul came early though, as, despite all plans to get an early night for a change, my block on a story I've been picking away at for weeks suddenly broke half an hour after midnight.

writing blather. most of you are probably used to me doing this by now )

Didn't get to bed for an hour or to sleep until after 3, pretty much crashed around 4 yesterday afternoon, still feeling blurry today, but damn was it worth it.

w00t!
