It says a lot about how much I've been overthinking things over the last couple of weeks that my gut reaction to the big reveal from this chapter was not "I did not see that coming!" but rather "aw, I was hoping that if/when it turned out that Vergo was able to disable Law so easily because he's gotten hold of Law's Ope-Ope removed heart, it would turn out Law had removed it himself to hide somewhere he thought was safe, soul-in-a-jar-style, rather than because CC talked him into doing something rather foolish. Ah well."

However you look at it, I do like the idea that a perfectly rational use of Law's power would involve removing the majority of his major organs and leaving them behind before taking on a powerful enemy, who could then be allowed to stab him right through the chest without hitting anything but fabric. Of course, it's always finding 'safe' storage that's the problem.

Law is surprisingly trusting for someone in his postion and knowledge. I want to know why he would trust CC to keep the spirit of the bargain.

I'm guessing he didn't feel like he had any leverage to negotiate, but even so, trading his own heart for CC's secretary's? That's a bad deal.

I'm also guessing he never particularly trusted CC, but was counting on staying far enough ahead of the game to see the double-cross coming in time. As he said himself, CC isn't terribly bright (outside his field of scientific genius, anyhow).
