All graduated and what.
Apr. 7th, 2006 11:26 pmWednesday night was my graduation ceremony. You know the drill - everyone dresses up like a Harry Potter extra and queues up to get their bit of paper and their handshake, so let's just summarise the rest:
- Somewhere in the past seventeen years of education, I must have built up a quite impressive tolerance for long, boring ceremonies full of long, boring speeches, because all the sitting around and waiting didn't bother me at all. That, or knowing that this was the very last long, boring ceremony the Australian education system will ever make me sit through made all the difference.
- While everyone was finding seats, the organist played one of the pieces of music that the huge pipe-sculpture from Scitech used to play. Only, on an organ, with a bit more flare. Apparently it's, like, an actual piece of music written by an actual composer that exists outside of the City West building. It's a lot longer too. Who knew?
No-one said "I'm hungry" or "That's very sweet" during it though, which is a bit of a shame. - Those hoods and gowns make no sense to anyone. No, seriously, even some of the department heads couldn't get theirs on straight.
- I'm an actual, qualified engineer now. Holy shit.
