Guilty Gear: Bringing us the good crack since '98

Three new characters revealed for GG2: Overture. And almost before fandom can blink, there's another article with better pics and screenshots galore (seriously, is this stuff coming out unnaturally fast, or am I just too used to Squeenix being unnaturally slow?). Anyway, there's a new girl called Valentine who looks to be one of the villains, possibly the first important one encountered (and she fights with a BALLOON ON A STRING. AN EVIL, TRANSFORMING BALLOON ON A STRING. With lace and a bow at the bottom. Ah, Guilty Gear, I love you so.) There's also a kitsune-looking guy called Izuna, who seems to be hanging around with Sol and Sin, and a dragon-like creature called Dr. Paradigm. He's reminding me of Beast from X-men a bit, but I don't know what else to make of him yet, and it looks like Sol doesn't either.

So, you know how you come up with those utterly cracked theories to explain the origin of some character in this-series-or-that, which would never make any sense if it wasn't 2 AM in the morning, but then they get stuck in your head and before you know it you're finding all this other evidence that seems to prove them? I'm doing a lot of that this week. This time, I can't even find a single piece of evidence to contradict me.

So, in short, Sin (the new character from Overture) is clearly Sol and Ky's kid.


Reasons why this must be true:

1. What twigcollins said: "Awww, mommy's hair and daddy's smirk."


2. He calls Sol 'oyaji'. Which translates almost perfectly to 'old man'. Can be used just as an informal name for a familiar older male. Can also just mean 'Dad'.


3. He must be connected to Ky. It's not just the hair and the eyes, or the taste for blue and white clothes, or even all the crosses he's wearing. He and Ky are using all the same support units in battle, and are the only two characters we've seen so far who appear in the same colour on the maps. Do we think the king of Icuria is going to let anyone who isn't the heir to the throne borrow his private army? I think not.


4. He's tagging along with Sol. His bio says he's hanging around with Sol because he wants to polish his bounty hunting skills, but seriously, since when does Sol let just anyone follow him around? He's a diehard 'I work alone' kinda guy. There must be a story there. Okay, there's Axl occasionally, but even he has to be on the run from guys who think he's carrying blacktech secrets before Sol will give much of a damn.


5. The new Sol vs. Ky battle theme from Accent Core. Which is called "Keep the Flag Flying". What was that weapon Sin fights with again?*

Things that should contradict this theory but really don't:

1. It's not that far in the future, isn't Sin a little old? This one I would grant you, except for the fact that the one other canonical half human/half gear character grew from an infant to her current age within the space of three years. Nothing to say Sin has to look his age!


*Yes, I know. But "Keep the Pants Onna Stick Flying" just doesn't have the same ring to it.

It's almost too perfect. ...I must need to get out more. o_o

As crazy as the GG costumes are, they do seem to reuse a lot of buckles elements.

Maybe there is just something about goth-loli-female-Bridgets that irritate you?

For all their tradition of writing weird stuff on the characters' clothes, that one is still pretty weird. XD I wonder if they knew exactly what it meant (actually, with their track record I doubt it would have stopped them using it either way ^^;).

Wow, I feel like such a noob in comparison. I only discovered the series earlier this year. ^^;

I would say I've got all the crazy of CLAMP fandom as well, but I don't think even they can compete with GG for bizarre.

Looks to me like they wanted to try a Goth-Loli style design, but with extra Goth. XD Some of the stuff I've been translating from her profile seems to say she acts like an emotionless doll, though I wouldn't have guessed it from the screenshots. With that balloon thing as her weapon, I can only imagine all the weird attacks she'll have to have.

Dunno, does 24 count as young? ^^; I've been through assorted other fandoms since before the first GG came out, but it's not always bad discovering a series late - it means there's that much more stuff from it for you to enjoy when you do find out about it. ^_^

I cannot argue that GG is in a whole class of its own for weird. XD

Because Robo-Ky himself is pretty damn good proof they're interested in Ky's battle ability, whereas Sol has one of the highest risk ratings on the chart. So put them together...

I may be picking up a bad record for pre-spoilers lately - I'm already guilty of predicting a major plot point for another series via fic. ^^; I'm going to be so very amused if that was the start of a trend. But if, by some miracle, this does turn out to be true, we will *all* have to laugh our asses off.
