Another cosplay help request - wig styling

To k_chan009, yiji_chan and... well, anyone who can offer help with the making of uber-spiky wigs and has some relatively free time coming up in their near future: can I ask a big favour? I'm working on styling the wig for the Hiei costume, and I could really use some hands-on assistance with making it look decent, if you could maybe pop over here this weekend.

I think I've got a general hang on making individual spikes, and I've got the base wig and a pile of white hair extensions to sew on to it, but getting the sides and back to look right is going to be tricky (and it is worth bearing in mind that I can barely style my own hair most of the time ><). This is one of those costumes that is going to be *all* about the wig, so I do need to make sure I get it right.


Progress report on the rest of the costume (just to make me feel like I'm getting somewhere):

Boots: Finished! Could still use a coat of something to make them look less shiny, but it's not too crucial.
Sword: Very nearly finished. All the modding and painting is done, just need to get pinneagig to help with some touch ups to the metal and to glue everything together.
Pants: Also very nearly done. Just needs a little minor neatening up.
Belt: Done.
Shirt: Mostly done, just some neatening up left to do.
Compression vest: Has been bought, and shall save much mucking around with binding.
Bandaging on arm: Making this as a glove so I don't have to spend ages winding it around my arm every time. I've made a decent start on it.
Coat: Mostly done, but there I've got a few seams left to finish off.
Scarf: Have the fabric, still needs to be made.
Headband: As above.
Third eye: Bought some temporary tattoo paper for this. Still need to get the design drawn up, printed out and tested before the day.
Red contacts: Looking into these. Advice appreciated.
Pendant: jaseroque and I need one of these each, and they'll either be made from blue beads if we can find them, or clay and shiny nail polish if we can't.

You really wouldn't think a costume that looks so simple below the hairline would have so many bits to it, would you? o_o

One month to Waicon to go! so who's panicking yet?

I went to the optometrist centre at UWA and they ordered them for me.

The main issue is more what they'll cost me, how many uses I'll get out of them, whether there's a particular brand I should be looking for, etc. kae_dash reckoned he could get me some good quality ones for about $100, but I figured I should check around a bit before rushing out to spend that kind of money. ^^;

I got two pairs of contacts for $110. Brand "Crazy Lenses" or something like that. I think they're good for like 14 uses or something like that - you know, standard contact lens wearing policies apply. I'm still using my original lenses and I'll probably keep using them for a while yet.

Since I've never actually worn contacts at all before, I'm still sort of figuring out what 'standard contact lens wearing policies' are. I've picked up that they take some getting used to at first and that you only get so much use out of one pair, but beyond that I'm a little hazy on the details. As long as they'll last through a few wears though, that'll probably be as much as I'd need.

Right! Right, well, technically if they are disposable lenses you should only wear them for 14 days, which means 14 uses. You should let your eyes acclimatise first - if you're going to be wearing them for 8 hours at Waicon you should wear them for an hour or two on the first day and work up from there. I have honestly probably worn my Axel green lenses as much as I should be wearing them, so I'll need to look into getting new ones at some stage when I get back to Perth, although not immediately because I don't need green lenses for anything urgent.

Well, you've got a pretty damn good excuse for not being able to just pop around here on the weekend. XD Just hope I'll be able to find someone else who can help out.

BTW: Now working on the final edit of The Story of Pants on a Stick, should be finished this afternoon or tomorrow sometime~ >D

Don't worry, there are always *plenty* of photos taken at these things. And with a little luck, I might even get around to posting some this year. >.>
