*points at subject line* This was one of those things that was way up on my holiday to-do list, and it's finally been achieved. ^_^ (Ye gods, it's going to be nice having a machine that isn't so out of date that running three firefox windows and Word at once can slow it to a crawl) I'm still in the middle of the long process of re-installing everything, and things could have gone a whole lot smoother up to this point. Which is to say that we wasted a whole evening yesterday failing to convince the thing even to install Windows and finally had to take it back to the shop to get it fixed up just to clear that first hurdle.

The upshot was that I wound up spending most of a whole extra day without a working computer beyond what I'd counted on (I'm sure most of you will know only too well how traumatic this can be). On the upside though, that did mean I got a good part of my room cleaned out at last, started a new pipe fox ([livejournal.com profile] sansele? This would be yours, for the record. ^_~) and turned out an extra 2000 words on Ghost Stories, so maybe there's another message there about separating myself from my computer a little more often. ^^;

Speaking of Ghost Stories, counting everything written so far it must be just about to clear the 50,000 word mark if it hasn't already (which I'd be a lot more pleased with if I didn't know how many people manage to write that much inside a month when NaNo rolls around, but it's a decent milestone to pass, nonetheless). Thanks to the continually slow pace of the holic manga though, I'm still not turning out anything I can really post yet - and I've already changed my mind once about part of Kohane's story based on recent material, so continuing to write around her parts for the time being still seems like the best plan. On the slightly more optimistic hand, the main point of keeping myself to the schedule of posting once a week was originally to help myself keep up momentum on the thing, but when I've lately been turning out up to eight pages a day on it, momentum would appear to be taking care of itself.

I've still got an awful lot of ground to cover before it's anywhere near finished (or before I'm even likely to be able to figure out how a lot of the ending is going to work at all), and that's not even counting side stories or the final editing. For which matter, sooner or later I'm going to have to decide whether I want a draft version of the last couple of chapters posted before the final version's done at all. Suffice to say there's lot in store for some of the characters towards the end, and I'm not sure whether I'd trust draft-quality to do some of it justice. But I can make up my mind on that when I'm closer to done.

Here's to hoping that editing this monster takes me a whole lot less time than writing it has done. ^^;

Just a random wonder.
Why open so many FireFox windows when you can use tabs?

Because I'm used to using alt-tab to switch between windows? Other than that, it really doesn't make a lot of different to me one way or the other. ^^;

In case you didn't know, you can Ctrl-PageUp or Ctrl-PageDown to swap between tabs.

I didn't, but it's mostly a matter of habit anyway. I tend to have as many windows open at once as I can get away with (far too easily distracted ^^;), and having to switch between different methods of paging through them with different hands would only get irritating for me.

Did you just hear the CRY OF UTTER HAPPY from the direction of Singapore? Might have deafened a few people. Oops.

Yay for new computer goodness! What sort of specs have you ended up with? :)

Specs... er, well, 2GB RAM, hard drive's 160GB (plus the extra 160 from the old one I transferred across - not running out of space around here any time soon), processor's supposed to be 3.0 GHz. Huuuge step up from what I was working with before, believe me.

Would you like any TV now that you have lots of space? <.<

You probably wouldn't want to know how many things get stuck in folders lost at the back of my file system somewhere that no-one remembers anymore. >.>

More Ghost Stories in the offing? Hooray! (Sorry, have cold, cannot be more creative than that. But the sentiment is genuine.)

Creative enough to get the point across, don't worry. *g* Still don't know when it'll ever be posted, but at least it's moving along nicely. And honestly, when you're past the 40,000 word mark and you're still getting eight-page bursts of inspiration, it is something to be savored.
