Just when I was thinking I must surely be past my quota for being sick this winter...
My workplace has been hit with a bad case of the plague, and I only wish that was more of an exaggeration. When I phoned in on Friday morning to explain why I hadn't shown up for work, my boss was unusually sympathetic about it on account of how about half the rest of the workplace had already done the same thing that morning, proving that whatever was going around was some pretty serious business. From first hand experience, I would have to agree. You'd hope my immune system would be in pretty decent shape after all the exercise it's had over the last couple of months, but this one just steamrolled right over it.
We're talking standard cold/flu congestion, plus mild fever (mostly gone now), plus nausea, plus that general, all-purpose you-are-sick-and-being-vertical-is-bad feeling jacked up to the degree that even sitting up in front of the computer for more than a couple of minutes at a time felt waaaaay like too much effort to contemplate. Also, my appetite is gone, which is an extra level of freakish because it's one of those things that just does not happen to me no matter how sick I get. The one saving grace on this is that since I'm already the improve, it doesn't look like it plans on dragging out too long. It sure doesn't need to when it's already taken first place as the Worst Bug I've Had This Year against some pretty stiff competition.
It's starting to feel a little too much like there's some kind of mystical conspiracy out there for the sole purposes of thwarting my plans to get in shape this year. If I'm not sick, it's some kind of muscle strain. If it's not some kind of muscle strain, well, you just wait until next week...
In conclusion: so not going in to work on Monday. Also, anyone who's been around me in the last week or so (god, I almost feel guilty going to that thing at
alyssea's place on Thursday night now, knowing how fast it went around work) now might not be a bad time to take some extra vitamin C pills. >_<

Date: 2008-08-31 09:12 pm (UTC)I had planned to leave early Friday to go visit friends all weekend since I have Monday off. Now it's Sunday and I am still sick. -_-

Date: 2008-09-01 06:17 am (UTC)I had plans for the weekend too, you can guess where they went. -_- It's almost like the flu sees your weekend coming and times the perfect moment to pounce.

Date: 2008-09-01 02:17 pm (UTC)On the plus side, it's better than missing 4 days of work (and getting fired!)...or going to work so sick. I'm finally starting to move into the "a little sniffly and cough-y" phase, out of "Oh God I'm going to drown in my own phlegm unless I barbeque in fever first."

Date: 2008-09-03 12:18 am (UTC)I have heard that if you steep shredded ginger in hot water, and add lemon and honey, it will help you get better more quickly. I can't make claims about the efficacy, but it is at least tasty. ^__^

Date: 2008-09-03 01:12 pm (UTC)I'm feeling a lot better today, fortunately (or unfortunately, since that meant I had to go back to work ^^;). It didn't wind up dragging out nearly as much as I was worried it might, which is quite a relief.
