A funny thing happened at uni today...

rallamajoopToday, a university in another state awarded me a thousand bucks for an unfinished project which I was doing anyway.
Afterwards, of course, they explained that the Centre for Groundwater Honours Prize can go to any final year who has a thesis topic that is in some way groundwater-related and a supervisor nice enough to nominate them; and that the winners are decided based on their past academic records. There is no need for one to make any extra effort to enter, have any part of their thesis in a state to ready to show to people, or indeed, have any idea they've been entered at all until their names are called out during the CWR morning tea.
But, once the three of us baffled ones had gotten past the "Did you know anything about this?" "No, I didn't, what about you?" phase, you could describe it as a pleasant surprise.
I celebrated by buying a stupid fork insect.
I still have a bit left over.
