rallamajoop: (Ky cosplay)

Another post now ridiculously overdue. (I will defeat this backlog someday I swear!)

Wai-con's officially only a weekend event, but it is one of few times we get to see a lot of our cosplayer friends from other states, so it's becoming something of a tradition to spend the Monday after the con taking the chance to do photoshoots while everyone's still in the same place. This year [livejournal.com profile] amenokitarou brought over his Sin costume and we took the much-overdue opportunity to do a proper Guilty Gear: Overture shoot.

Cosplayers present: myself as Ky, [livejournal.com profile] velithya as Sol and of course [livejournal.com profile] amenokitarou as Sin. Our photographers were risachantag and [livejournal.com profile] k_chan009, with help from Cescat who spent much of the day running back and forth straightening bits of costumes as needed (all photoshoots could use someone in this role). The venue was St Mary's Cathedral in Perth, which is probably the prettiest church in the city.

Solo pics

Group shots

Miscellaneous silliness

Because no matter how dedicated the cosplayer, we can only hold those serious faces for the photographers so long so long.

One of the cuter unposed shots that got taken that day. Yes, that's me fixing my collar again.

"One day, son, all this will be yours!" (This was not even supposed to be a pose. This happened when we all wandered around the front of the church for the first time and I threw an arm over [livejournal.com profile] amenokitarou's shoulders and started quoting Monty Python, and the next thing I knew our photographers were yelling "Hold it!" Consequently I cannot possibly list this with the serious photos.)

A couple of sets photos involving Sol and Sin that are best read as sequences:

Finally, a couple of shippy shots that we could not resist taking while we had a Sin handy - because as much as we may ship Sol and Ky, there is no kid on the planet who doesn't get at least a bit of an "ew, my parents are being gross!" reaction to the thought of his folks getting romantic. ;)

Oh my goodness I am dying at the last two, HAHA. What a great setting, too!

Your Overture costumes are all so gorgeous ;u; I've been telling myself I need to make an updated GG costume one of these days, but I'll probably hold out for when a new GG comes out. Assuming one ever does *cry*

I have wanted to do something like those last couple of of photos for years, seriously! *g*

Hey, considering they've finally got the IP back it's not impossible! Hell if I know what they're likely to do with the plot though, after the last couple of instalments tangled everything up so effectively. ^^;

The wait paid off!

Well, at least the 'main players' of Overture more or less had their stories nudged in the Overture direction, but as for the rest of the cast... Yeah, I have no idea XD;;

The issue as I see it is more that the odds of any direct Overture sequel in the same mould look pretty unlikely, given its sales, so even if the X series games do fill in everything up to Overture, what then? The timeline has always been hard enough for the casual fan to follow, the last couple of instalments have only made it worse. I'm sure there are ways to sort it out, but like I said, hell if I know how they're likely to do it.

Yeah, I have my doubts that they're going to do a non-fighting game in the future, if at least because the fans who aren't necessarily in it for story purposes (the tournament and casual interest players, etc) are going to lose interest completely if they try to do something Overture-like again (if even just because other than the more hardcore fans, people probably won't want to justify buying a game from a series they like if they don't like the game itself).

Though story-wise unless they decide to jump to something completely different, I don't see what other way they could go story-wise, if not a sequel to Overture, than a prequel of some kind after Accent Core.
